What was first, the bird or the fruit?
Kiwis are flightless birds native to New Zealand. They are also our national icon. When the kiwi fruit was introduced from Asia, people started calling it "kiwi fruit" because of it's furry shape similar to that of a kiwi bird. But you have to be careful not to confuse them. If you are in New Zealand and say : " I ate a kiwi for lunch " people will think you ate a kiwi bird and probably they will get angry because it is an endangered species. If you like to learn more about the kiwi, visit Bank of New Zealand's Kiwi Recovery Trust.
